Our Work – Assessing Markets
Education is a major force for development and the creation of human capital. While governments across the world strive to enhance national competitiveness and are committed to improving education in their countries, economic and social realities often complicate even the best of intentions.
There is increasing recognition of the need for the private sector to assume a more prominent role in the provision and finance of education, and the private education sector is growing in many countries.
As private investors turn in increasing numbers to these education markets in search of attractive yields, School Ventures is working to reduce information asymmetries that have traditionally hindered investment in the sector. The primary aim of our market related work is to reveal the relative attractiveness of the world's different education markets as destinations for private investment.
We assess and analyze the growth potential of private education in each country based on the existence of favorable conditions in several key categories spanning 46 economic and social indicators. Countries that possess a combination of positive factors across these diverse categories can be considered strong investment options that demonstrate a wealth of enablers for independent education sector growth. Those countries performing poorly give clues as to the depth and extent of obstacles to be overcome in order to improve overall investment environment.
School Ventures has undertaken the first comprehensive assessment of the education markets in 36 African nations and has produced an index called the African Private School Investment Index, which is available at www.apsiindex.com.
