School Ventures launches umake100 campaign
(Washington, DC) November 1, 2008– umake100 is a campaign by School Ventures to kick-start a global movement that will take social business into schools everywhere and deal poverty a deadly blow.
Today's young people, even those who are poor, don't look to the world so much for what they can get. They look to the world for what they can give.
That's why beginning in 2009 with a launch of a new website, you'll have the opportunity to partner with student entrepreneurs from disadvantaged backgrounds across the world to take on the great challenges of our time through sustainable social businesses run by the students themselves.
In the meantime , we've got work to do to get the movement going - and we at School Ventures need your help. That's what the umake100 campaign is about.
Firstly, we need to raise $100,000 by December 31, 2008 . This will help us train our first 10,000 students from low-income communities in the USA and Africa on how to run successful social businesses.
Secondly, we want to build a community of 100,000 social champions by December 2009 - people like you who care about the future and are willing to help give children from poor families a chance to change the world.
There are just three things you need to do to get involved:
1. Join us and share your ideas for social change.
2. Make a $100 contribution.
3. Invite 10 friends to do the same.
We've partnered with GlobalGiving so that you can get a tax deduction for your $100 contribution to the campaign. So when you're ready to give , the links will take you to our page on the GlobalGiving website.
Join the campaign. Give $100. Tell 10 friends to do the same. If you make $100, we'll change the world together. You can also join the campaign on our Facebook group.
